A Celebration of Texas Wine The Legacy of Thomas Volney Munson

The DFW Chapter is excited to host “A Celebration Of Texas Wine—the Legacy of Thomas Volnay Munson on September 13 through September 15, 2019 at the Lone Star Lodge and Marina near Pilot Point, Texas Did you know that a Texan, Thomas Volnay Munson, saved the French wine industry from ruin in the 1880s? Come hear the incredible story of his life as we celebrate his legacy in Texas wine. A variety of wine related events has been planned for the weekend, including two wine and food events and several winery tasting events.

Informal tastings will be arranged at wineries in the area for those attendees who want a winery stop on the way to Pilot Point.
5:30 pm– 6:30 pm Registration Packet Pick-up at the Lone Star Resort, or at the first event attended.
6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Texas Versus the World Tasting—Lone Star Lodge. Texas wines can now compete with the world in quality. Help us prove it by bringing your favorite Texas wine or a world wine to compare. This will be an interesting blind tasting in which the wines are matched as to varietal and price range. At the end of the evening, we will vote on the winners and then “unmask” the wines. BYOB. Attendees are encouraged to also BYOG, (bring your own “specialty” glass, if preferred) to fully enjoy the wines. Heavy appetizers as well as a meat and cheese board will be provided at the Lone Star Lodge. The cost will be $68 for members, $75 for non-members

9:30 am— Leave on the bus with your breakfast box as we head to Dennison Texas. Cost: $98 for members and $100 for non-members.
10:30 am—Guided tour of Thomas Volnay Munson’s house, Vinita, in Dennison, Texas.
11:30 am— Guided tour of the T.V. Munson Memorial Vineyard in Dennison, Texas
12:30 pm— Lunch at Devolli’s in the Homestead Winery in downtown Dennison included in cost above.
3:00 pm—Tasting at Square Cloud Winery in Gunter, Texas
5:00 pm—Arrive at the Lone Star Lodge
6:30 pm—Aperitif at the Lone Star Lodge
7:00 pm—Wine dinner at the Lone Star Lodge with Eden Hill wines, scholarship dinner, silent auction and cork pull. BYOG – bring your own glasses to fully enjoy the wine. The cost will be $148 for members and $160 for non-members.
10:30 pm – ? “Wine Down” – Lone Star Lodge – enjoy the rest of the evening with friends at the lodge.

Other Weekend Details
A silent auction will be held on Friday and Saturday nights to benefit the Wine Society of Tex-as and the Wine Society of Texas Scholarship Grant program. Donations of wine valued at a minimum of $20 per bottle and up are needed for the cork pull. To donate “Cork Pull” bottle or silent auction items, contact Charlene Tribble at Charlene@haddockfamily.com.
A block of rooms has been arranged at the Lone Star Lodge at a rate of $99 per night, not in-cluding room taxes. The Lone Star Lodge is located right on beautiful Lake Ray Robert at 2200 FM 1192, Pilot Point, Tx. 76258. The cost is $99 per night. To book a room, call 940-686-0261 and ask for the Wine Society of Texas block. Room block will be released on Friday, Sept 6 and is for Friday and Saturday night.
