Permian Basin Chapter – Blending Class – Presented by Jim Evans, Winemaker
March 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm CDT
As part of our mission statement “Wine Appreciation Through Education” we are hosting a Blending Class, conducted by winemaker, Jim Evans. Jim is a graduate of Texas A&M University and started making wine for the University of Texas Experimental Viticulture and Enology program in 1985. In 1996 he became winemaker for Robert and Jamey Wolf of Lone Oak Vineyards which was sold in 2006 to Gene and Judy Estes and renamed Lost Oak Winery in Burleson, Texas.
Jim will first present an overview of the blending process followed by our tasting the three red Bordeaux varietals we will be working with. We will divide into teams of 4-5 people and start the blending process. The favorite blend selected from each team will be judged in a blind tasting, and gold, silver and bronze medals awarded. Of course we will have some simple foods for everyone. This will be an interesting and fun way to learn what it involves to make a wine blend.
The event will start at 7:00 pm at the Grassland Estate Clubhouse, 5800 Crowley, Midland, Texas. Please be prompt as we want to have as much time as needed for the blending process and judging. Cost will be $30 Members and $35 Guests. Please RSVP by March 24th by emailing or calling Shirley Choate at 432-553-6408.
