Several wines we tasted at the State Meeting in East Texas will be introduced. The Red 55 Winery’s tasting room is located inside the Pink Pistol in Lindale, Texas. It is owned and operated by Rick and Bev Lambert and was conceived as a way to honor their daughter, country recording artist Miranda Lambert. Their wines are named after Miranda’s hit songs which we will be playing as we pour the Kerosene (Pinot Grigio) and Gunpowder & Lead (Merlot) varietals.
The next selection is a wine from Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards. The winery was started in 2000, and now offers tastings, tours, a restaurant, live jazz, and cottages for overnight stays. They won a silver medal in the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition for their Colibri (Rose’).
The final two wines are from Kiepersol Estates who hosted our State events dinner and charity auction. The winery owns 60 acres of vineyards which produce all of their estate grown varietals. The acreage was hand planted in 1998 by the de Wit family who immigrated to Texas from South Africa in the 40’s. Now owned and managed by their two daughters, they produce wines that in their words “capture Old World style along side Texas pride”. They employ gravity flow for barrel transfers significantly reducing pump usage which lends the wine a softer and more elegant mouth feel. We will be tasting their 2014 Mengsel (red blend of Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Syrah) and their un-oaked 2012 Syrah.
