The Wine Society of Texas is proud to welcome Alphonse Dotson, winemaker at Dotson Cervantes, for an evening of exceptional wine and storytelling on May 13th.
Alphonse’s journey from the NFL to winemaking is as rich as the wines he produces. A former Defensive Tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders, his love for viticulture began as a young boy in Houston, inspired by his grandfather’s backyard vineyard. After retiring from football, he found his perfect site in Voca, Texas—right off Highway 71, the number he wore as a player—and began planting in 1997.
Dotson sources fruit from the Hill Country AVA, Texas High Plains AVA, and his estate vineyard in Hickory Sands AVA, Texas’ newest appellation. His boutique winery consistently earns Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals at international competitions such as Finger Lakes and Houston Rodeo.
